With the increasing number of people unhappy with themselves, their jobs, or their life in general, it is time we learned to love ourselves. Here are a few things to do in order to enjoy life more.

  1. Eating right: The first on this list is eating right, and at consistent Include raw vegetables which are easy to peel and eat, as well as fruits like bananas and citrus to boost vitamin levels. Bananas provide you with a fillip as they are full of “feel good” chemicals which make you… well, feel good.
  2. Exercise: Few people realize the positive impact on self-esteem that exercise can produce. A regular exercise schedule, even for a reasonable half hour each day does wonders in making you feel great about yourself. Depending on your age, you can go for high intensity or low intensity Calibrate your performance improvement with changes in mood and try to stick to a simple schedule as much as possible.
  3. Positive Self-talk: Take a look at the mirror and evaluate your positive qualities and how they have served you well. Most often we look at the world instead of ourselves when in front of the mirror, and this attitude needs to change. Other’s disappointments are often viewed as one’s, and one’s successes are often seen as success achieved by others. You need to take stock of the situation and write down lists of the positive attributes you possess and focus on the positive aspects you bring to the world.
  4. Do not Focus on Winning Approval: You do not need to do things the way everyone else is doing them. Nor do you require permission from others to do things your way.
  5. Distancing: Unwanted and unwarranted company is bad news; keep away from such people as much as possible. Having healthy boundaries in all aspects of your life is important. If you need help in this area, read “Boundaries: When to Say Yes, How to Say No to Take Control of Your Life” by Henry Cloud and John Townsend
  6. Forgiveness: Forgive yourself for past mistakes committed, knowingly or unknowingly, and also forgive others. Then, you can live in the present and be free of past hurts.
  7. Gratitude: Be grateful for the things you have in life – your family, job, good health, sound mind, and lots more. Although times get tough, and especially when they are tough, search for things for which to be grateful.
  8. Do Things that Make you Happy: Simple activities such as gardening, or a hobby that involves “me” time. There is a great deal of difference between fatigue brought on by stress and gratifying exhaustion.
  9. New Opportunities: Try your hand at something new, like writing or poetry, it brings out hidden feelings and lets you unburden yourself.
  10. Focus: When you watch “success” stories of people, what you see are highlights; hence stop thinking that your life will only see crests. There will be the occasional off day, but there will be many good days, too. Focus on those.
